Grumpy, Old, Fat, Ugly, & Short.

If we tell the truth, at least one of these adjectives fit most of us:

  • Grumpy

  • Old

  • Fat

  • Ugly

  • Short

Yes, I know that all these terms are relative, so don't send me salty emails.  Depending the day on which you encounter me, I fit into 1-3 of these categories, myself.  Maybe even 4.

But I'm sure that we can all agree that society has deemed them all as undesirable.  We must all be charming, young, slim, attractive, and either willowy or petite (for women), or tall and broad-shouldered (for men) at all times.

And doubly so here in Hollywood.

And if you are non-white, non-Christian, non-cisgendered, or homosexual, FORGET IT.  You just don't belong.

Uh-huh.  Right.

Well, because I am tired of seeing BRILLIANT, INSPIRATIONAL, WONDERFUL people trying to reduce themselves to fit into some carved-up, Photoshopped, lipo-pulled notion of "acceptable," I'm going to say this:

To heck with all of that nonsense.

Body. Mind. Spirit.  That's the stuff that we are made of, and for which we are responsible of being wise stewards.  It behooves us to take care of all three, but none of us are perfect, so sometimes our care-taking gets a little lax.  We forget that our spirit needs inspiration and freedom.  We forget that our bodies need more than pizza, chicken wings, and beer.  We  forget that our mind needs more than football and "Desperate Housewives."  We also forget that people's judgement of us is not who we actually are.

We let "them" into our heads sometimes, internalizing each verbal or nonverbal gesture (real or perceived), and altering ourselves accordingly.  But that makes "them" the experts.  And "they" may know more in some areas than others, but they don't know US.  If they can dismiss us because we are larger than a size 8, they obviously don't know how TALENTED we are.  If they can count us out because we aren't well-suited to a 9-5 or have wrinkles on our faces, they don't know how RESOURCEFUL we are.

So, what do we do?

We live.

We live as fully as we were created to live, without any reservation or embellishment caused by "them."

We will be as Grumpy, Old, Fat, Ugly, & Short as we really are, and not apologize in word or deed for ANY of it.

Why should we?  There's absolutely nothing wrong here.

We are  BRILLIANT, INSPIRATIONAL, WONDERFUL, TALENTED, and RESOURCEFUL.

Who could ask for anything more?

"He who is without sin..."

XO.
