"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." --Thoreau
As I begin this post, it is 5 minutes 'til midnight. I've been looking back over the past year, taking stock of my life, comparing my actual achievements with the goals I set for myself a year or so ago, and giving myself a little nod. Not too shabby. I won't bore you with the details of that, but I WILL tell you some things that I think will serve you. The revelations have certainly served me.
HOPE IS NOT ENOUGH. LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH. DESIRE IS NOT ENOUGH. PASSION IS NOT ENOUGH. DREAMS ARE NOT ENOUGH.
All of the hope, love, desire, passion, and dreams in the WORLD will not amount to a hill of beans (picture that for a moment), without old-fashioned ELBOW GREASE.
We artists (in particular) tend to be very "airy-fairy" and sometimes think that all we have to do is "put it out there" (wherever 'there' is), and "the universe" will make things happen.
Not so with our careers.
We have been given gifts, talents, desires, and information. We have everything that we need to do what we are supposed to be doing. If we aren't doing anything to help ourselves, why should "the universe" (or God, or any other powers that be) help us. Screw that. Before asking someone else to serve you, how about serving yourself?
Accept the vision, like Tom Cruise accepting a mission. Set those goals. And do. the. work.
Hope, Love, Desire, Passion, and Dreams are NOT. ENOUGH.
But they are a heckuva place to start.
2012 is another chance to make it all happen.
Let's do this.
Happy New Year, Y'all.
